"An artificial appropriation of different styles from different eras, the hipster represents the end of Western civilization - a culture lost in the superficiality of its past and unable to create any new meaning." Douglas Haddow says it all. I like the analogy he uses of quotation marks over the culture he refers to. But really, there is still an array of sub-cultures you can place under the hipster umbrella that are unique in intent and authenticity. Sure there are the poseurs. But there are those who happen to have just tripped into it :) Anyway, categories suck. And there are writers who write out of bitterness, and there are those who truly want to just understand the dynamics. This was a nice read cause it hits close to home.
